The Iron Fist 50th Anniversary One-Shot that Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief C.B. Cebulski teased in December has officially been announced with an Aug. 14 release date. Cebulski broke the news exclusively on this site during his visit to the Philippines for the Super Manila comic convention.

Marvel Comics revealed today that the special oversized one-shot will be titled, “IRON FIST 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1,” and will include stories and art by some of the company’s current crop of writers and artists, and a sprinkling of comicdom’s esteemed creators. The one-shot special will be bannered by none other than legendary scribe Chris Claremont, who guided the Living Weapon during his formative years in the mid-70s.

Claremont’s classic new story will be penciled by prolific artist Lan Medina, who shared a few weeks ago on Instagram that he was working on a story involving Iron Fist, using a bare toy figure as a reference.

Whilce Portacio, the venerable X-Men artist who has worked with Claremont in the past, will also be part of the team of creators. Portacio teased the project in one of his reels a month ago and his work will be featured in a story by upcoming Dazzler writer Jason Loo.

Alyssa Wong, who wrote the 2022 Iron Fist mini-series, has penned a story (with art by hard-hitting newcomer Von Randal) that will likely finish up the arc that introduced former Sword Master Lin Lie as the new Iron Fist.

Aside from the title reveal, Marvel also unveiled the 50th anniversary logo. The style is not unfamiliar to comic book fans as it has been the template for the anniversary logos of several of Marvel’s most iconic heroes over the past few years. Pardon the low-resolution image. I just zoomed into the logo to grab it.

The image shows David Aja’s art from the Immortal Iron Fist #1 which bleeds out of the number 50. The “YEARS” text is an homage to the very first Iron Fist logo design. And if you look closely enough, I believe you’ll find the “rivets” that make the original logo distinct. That’s a great way to honor the legacy of creators Roy Thomas and Gil Kane.

The covers are illustrated by a trio of comic book legends, namely Alan Davis (main cover), Kevin Eastman (variant), and Howard Chaykin (variant).

ADDENDUM: Two days after the announcement, Marvel added a David Aja variant to the roster of covers for the one-shot special. Aja posted this on his social media accounts moments later.
