Marvel has just unveiled its bold next step for Danny Rand—and it’s filled with a dark and sinister mystery tale that will take the original Iron Fist from death to resurrection and beyond.
A New Mini-Series: The Undead Iron Fist
According to the official announcement via AIPT Comics, Marvel will launch The Undead Iron Fist, a four-issue mini-series debuting September 10, 2025. This series directly follows the harrowing events in last year’s Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special #1, where Danny is brutally slain—only to emerge from his grave as a skeletal, revenant hero.
The title alone, The Undead Iron Fist, suggests a supernatural shift. It feels like Marvel is leaning hard into the eerie, mystical side of K’un‑Lun, letting Danny walk the fine line between life and death.

C.B. Cebulski’s SuperManila Tease Comes Full Circle
This undead direction echoes the interaction I shared from last September’s SuperManila. C.B. Cebulski told me, “Iron Fist is dead,” then added mysteriously, “K’un‑Lun works in mysterious ways” after I pointed out that Danny punched his way out of his grave in the epilogue scene. With The Undead Iron Fist on the horizon, it’s clear that Danny’s resurrection is deeply rooted in his mystical bond with K’un-Lun, the birthplace of his power.
The Wait is Over
Iron Fist fans have been waiting not so patiently for Danny to return ever since his cryptic death and arcane resurrection in the anniversary special. Though we’re still three months to the day of the release, the announcement alone is enough to excite the Iron Fist fandom and generate positive buzz around one of Marvel’s most enduring Bronze Age superheroes.
What to Expect
Danny as a revenant: Not your typical hero comeback. His return was first teased in Timeslide #1 (2024), which hinted at this year’s “The Ghost Fist Walks” storyline, setting the stage for a tale that reaches beyond the grave.
K’un‑Lun’s deeper role: Danny’s resurrection seems tied directly to the mystical city’s power. Were all the Iron Fists chosen or cursed?
Legacy and conflict: With Lin Lie holding the current Iron Fist mantle, how will the arrival of an undead Danny impact the legacy? How will Marvel resolve its Iron Fist dilemma with Pei also appearing to share the power of the Iron Fist?
Costume Design
Over on Bluesky, artist and writer Jason Loo revealed some behind-the-scenes insight into the new look for Danny Rand. According to Loo, who spoke with my friend Kim (who goes by skmetalle on IG and Bluesky), “Since last year, I read almost every Iron Fist comic to really study K’un-Lun. It was like entering a whole new universe or its own IP. I took a few stabs at redesigning the costume before Von Randal took over. End result looks wicked!”

It’s a collaboration that reflects a deep respect for the source material, with Loo immersing himself in decades of Iron Fist lore before passing his concept designs to Randal, whose final design is a unique, spectral look for the Living Weapon.
Loo and Randal are no strangers to Iron Fist fans.
Loo and artist Whilce Portacio told the story of Iron Fist’s death in the Iron Fist 50th anniversary issue.

Randal illustrated writer Alyssa Wong’s story featuring Lin Lie and Pei from the same issue. If I get another chance to interview Von Randal, I’ll be sure to ask about the creative process behind the new costume and how much influence Marvel’s editorial team had on the final design.

I am extremely grateful to Kim for her assistance in obtaining this important information. She’s a huge Daredevil fan! Go follow her on social media, folks!

In Summary
Danny Rand is back—not as the man he was, but as something more haunting. Will The Undead Iron Fist mark a bold new beginning or a cautionary tale of resurrection? Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
Colleen Wing should be with Alejandro Montoya (El Aguila) and Danny R should reunite with Misty.
Interesting character that you chose for Colleen. I like El Aguila, but personally, I still prefer Danny for her. That’s just my choice because my first exposure to Iron Fist was reading the Search for Colleen Wing storyline. I’m ok with Danny and Misty, but Danny and Colleen is a childhood dream of mine.
